For years, August around Lake Mahopac had a reputation as the slow stretch. School was out, the lake associations ran their own things, and if you wanted a night with music and a crowd you drove to Danbury or the Hudson. That version of August is gone. The Putnam County Golf Course has quietly built a Friday-and-Saturday concert habit that now runs every weekend through Labor Day, and the restaurants along the lake have shifted their staffing and hours to meet it.
If you already live in Mahopac, the practical question isn't whether there's something to do this month. It's how to sequence four weekends without eating the same meal twice or missing the one act you actually wanted to see.
The anchor everyone else is scheduling around
The Friday Night BBQ Series is held every Friday night at Putnam County Golf Course in Mahopac, with an all-you-can-eat BBQ buffet dinner included with admission, and this year the venue added Saturday night BBQs to the calendar. That last detail is the one that changed the shape of August. A Friday-only series creates one busy night. A Friday-and-Saturday series creates a weekend.
The format is consistent across every show. Doors and buffet open at 6:30, and music starts at 8. Pricing lands where a mid-tier tribute act usually does. For the Freestyle Legends show, tickets were $34 online and $40 at the door, include the BBQ buffet and the show, with a cash bar available and doors opening at 6. For the Queen tribute, show time is 8:00 pm and tickets are $37 at the door or $50 at the door, and the venue is well known for the outdoor BBQs, with the live bands subject to weather; in inclement weather some events move indoors with limited seating, and the BBQ proceeds as scheduled and is not canceled. So the rain plan is: you eat regardless.

Four consecutive weekend nights, four different decades of music, one buffet line. The venue's own summary of the series promises Dance, Country, Rock, 80s, 90s and more, with an all-you-can-eat BBQ buffet at every show, and the August slate is the clearest expression of that mix.
Where to eat if you aren't going to the golf course
The concert series has pulled some of the pressure off the lakefront restaurants on Friday nights, which is useful information if you actually want a table. Three places on the water are worth knowing by name.
Friends Waterfront Bar & Grill is the newer of the group. The restaurant markets itself as Mahopac's waterfront destination with a stylish interior dining room and an outdoor terrace with waterfront views, and the debut menu features everyday chef specials including Angus steak, chicken Milanese, and gluten-free pasta and pizza. It's the option for a group that wants to sit outside and not think too hard about the menu.
Lake House Restaurant and Bar occupies the upper end of the price range. It bills itself as located on Lake Mahopac, serving locally sourced ingredients along with some of the most spectacular views and sunsets in the area, and the space has a seating capacity of 250 guests with a private party room available for 55. That capacity matters. On a summer Friday when the golf course is drawing a thousand people up the road, the Lake House is the room that can absorb a walk-in group of eight.
BLU at the Lakehouse sits in the middle. The menu leans contemporary American, with dishes like grilled NY strip, orecchiette with cherry tomatoes and basil, short rib bolognese over homemade gnocchi, and grilled branzino with heirloom tomatoes, and valet parking is offered weekend nights during the summer for dinner service and for private parties, and the restaurant has its own parking lot with street-side parking allowed. If parking is the reason you've been avoiding the lake on Fridays, that's the answer.
The Route 6 option most residents forget
Not every August night wants a dock view. Stone House Grill & Market on US-6 is the one worth remembering when the lakefront is full or when you want a meal that doesn't taste like every other summer patio.
The restaurant's angle is specific. Stone House Grill & Market brings the flavors of Albania and the surrounding region in Europe to Putnam County, and co-owner Skender Ademi has framed it against neighboring cuisines: the cuisine is similar to Greek, Turkish, and a little bit Italian, sharing culture, the same sea, and the same area, but using fewer herbs and mostly ingredients like garlic, onion, salt, and pepper. The kitchen program is built around whole-animal cookery. At Stone House Grill, whole lambs and whole goats are baked in special ovens for about three hours. That's a plan-ahead reason to book a table, not a walk-in decision.
The rest of the menu covers the bases a Mahopac table expects. The menu includes braised goulash with beef and veal, Albanian-style stews, rib-eye, filet mignon, pasta, and burgers, with a Mediterranean grill featuring calamari, octopus, salmon, and branzino. The market next door is the other reason to go. It's a Tuesday-night solution as much as a Saturday one.
Look ahead one month
If you're planning further than August, the Chamber's fall event is worth marking now. The Mahopac Street Festival, hosted by the Greater Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce, transforms the town center into a celebration of local culture and community, drawing thousands of residents and visitors, with children's activities, live performances, handmade goods from local artisans, food vendors, and small businesses.
The bigger news for long-time residents is procession-related. The Columbus Day Parade is back after a five-year hiatus, with the Italian-American Club of Mahopac marching down Route 6 and into the fair at the Crossroads of Mahopac. That's the sort of detail that changes a routine street festival into something residents plan around. If you have relatives who grew up here and moved away, this is the fall to invite them back.
